I have recently been contacted by a neighbour who wants to apply for business rights on his property. He has contacted the owners of all the other properties in the street and requested that all the properties in the street be included in the application, as this will apparently improve the strength of the application. I was wondering if someone can advise me about the pro's and cons of having business rights on my residential property. I am especially afraid that if all the properties in the street become small businesses that it may adversely affect the value of my property.

Dont think you will have benefit from applying, depending on your area you need to consult your local municipality with regards to this, i recently looked at an area in Milnerton in Cape Town and the way it works there is that you have to apply for the business right for the business that will operate there, the license if granted is valid for 5 years before applying again. This is almost a temporary right for 5 years, rezoning will give you permanent rights. Just incidently the area i was looking at, the houses in the main road where business rights could potentially be obtained appeared to be getting higher prices but i suspect there is not cut and dry answer it will depend on the area you are in

Greetings
My house is located between a pharmacy/surgery and a guest house. I have heard that when the doctors applied for business rights, it was granted to all houses on my side of the street. Dunno about that… How or where can I find out what the Business Rights status of my property is?
